Azel Battle 1

Azel is very much like Gene himself; he’s capable of doing a number of your moves and roulettes. He’s also very evasive, which makes it quite hard to land consecutive punches on him. You can try breaking his guard but it’s often luck-based since he mostly dodges rather than guard.

Azel does a lot of Head Slicer (duck to avoid), Divine Smash (side dodge in time), Shockwave (side dodge), Kung Fu Tango (back flip away; you don’t even have this yet) and La Bomba roulettes (also back flip). He is very likely to do either Head Slicer, Divine Smash or Shockwave if you manage to launch him in any way. One of the most possible ways to do is to beat him in his little “pummel contest” where he starts pummeling you and you’ll have to mash O to retaliate. Just mash all face buttons to win.

Unfortunately, Azel has very few weaknesses. At random times, he may be vulnerable to roundhouse-cancels but it doesn’t last long. You can also spam tackle (dash + []) with a little risk. Doing Low Roundhouse Kick is a good way to counter him when up close but it’s not entirely abuse-able due to Azel’s tendency to spam roulettes.

The easiest, fastest and cheapest way that I know of is to abuse the Chain Yanker + Yes Man Kablaam tactic to refill your TP. When it's full, unleash godhand and spam Fist of Justice with Azel stuck between you and a wall. You can kill a LV 2 Azel in a single unleash if you do it right.

The pots laid around the battlefield can be used to throw at him but I suggest only doing it if your enemy level is low. A high-level Azel is more than likely to do a long-range roulette on you if you get too far from him in your attempt to throw a pot.
